Niantic Unveils Pokémon GO's May Research Events

Niantic revealed last week all of the new research events that will be taking place in Pokémon GO over the course of May 2020. The prime storyline behind the next four weeks of research is that Team GO Rocket has apparently been on the down-low, so now from May to September, they won't be doing any new Team GO Rocket Special Research. Instead, they're going to do a change of pace when it comes to research as Professor Willow and the team will keep investigating to find leads while the team seems to be MIA. So instead you'll be doing more research focused on specific creatures, which includes the Shinx. Below we have the details of what's happening all throughout the month for research, including the Spotlight Hours once a week every Tuesday which will keep you occupied. Especially those playing from home with the new Remote Raids where you can play the game from your couch. Hopefully, more will be added to this list and the month just isn't spent focusing on research.

May Research Breakthrough encounter: Shinx with bonus Shinx Candies!

From Friday, May 1, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, June 1, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7), the Flash Pokémon, Shinx, will be available as a Research Breakthrough encounter, and it'll come with bonus Shinx Candies!

Upcoming Pokémon Spotlight Hours

In the next few weeks, Pokémon Spotlight Hour will take place every Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. local time and will continue to spotlight both a Pokémon and a special bonus! For each Pokémon Spotlight Hour, you can expect a different Pokémon and bonus.

• Tuesday, May 5, 2020: Shellder will be in the spotlight, and you'll earn twice the Stardust for catching Pokémon.
• Tuesday, May 12, 2020: Sunkern will be in the spotlight, and you'll earn twice the XP for catching Pokémon.
• Tuesday, May 19, 2020: Poochyena will be in the spotlight, and you'll earn twice the Candy for catching Pokémon.
• Tuesday, May 26, 2020: Bronzor will be in the spotlight, and you'll earn twice the Candy for transferring Pokémon.
