We used to think that DC was far superior to Marvel when it comes to handing out comps to their talent. For one thing, when Marvel refused to send a copy of the Vision hardcover to writer Tom King, it was DC Editor Jamie Rich who purchased and sent him one.
But maybe sometimes it’s better to not get any comps at all?
That seems to be the case for beleaguered writer Tom Taylor, fresh off his stay in a haunted cabin, who took to Twitter last weekend to reveal another nightmare scenario. It seems that DC Comics sent him box of DCeased #1, hitting stores on Wednesday. Unfortunately, there was more in the package shipped to Taylor’s native Australia than just comics.
Of course this happened…
All the #DCeased comps arrived, but when I opened the box, something… moved. pic.twitter.com/eaHRgjo9ls— Tom Taylor (@TomTaylorMade) April 28, 2019
And a damn spider darts away. @DCComics have sent me a LIVE SPIDER.
It runs into the gap between the two piles of #DCeased comps (there are a LOT of variant covers)…— Tom Taylor (@TomTaylorMade) April 28, 2019
I have to stick my hand in there and PROTECT MY COUNTRY.

But it wasn’t just a fear of invading spiders that had King on edge. Could this Spider also be carrying an infectious disease?
My eldest son walks in and stares at me crouched over this box.
He asks for a comic.
I pull out the top comic and let him know there’s a US spider in the box somewhere.
He immediately puts the comic back because (I kid you not) he’s worried the American spider could have measles.— Tom Taylor (@TomTaylorMade) April 28, 2019
And a spider is crawling across Batman’s face on the other stack of comps in the box.
BUT it’s come from a different part of the box to where the other one disappeared to.— Tom Taylor (@TomTaylorMade) April 28, 2019
But it wasn’t just a single spider DC Comics had shipped to Tom Taylor…
It’s a baby. pic.twitter.com/4OFiMb0HyO

Is this a message from DC? Is this is because I also write Friendly Neighborhood #SpiderMan for Marvel? pic.twitter.com/rZJ7PzM5PJ

But wait a minute…
And now my wife has walked into the room. And she says something a number of you have pointed out… “That little one doesn’t look right.” pic.twitter.com/Tj6vzwsw6q

That’s right, DC Comics sent Tom Taylor both a live spider *and* a live scorpion. At least one of each, and who knows what else? Could it get any worse? We’re thinking it could…
But Taylor didn’t intend to find out…
NO. pic.twitter.com/VB6bJH44vk

Our first issue of #DCeased is out on Wednesday May 1st.
You’ll… uh… you’ll probably get to read it before me. pic.twitter.com/PV4zc1iMSE— Tom Taylor (@TomTaylorMade) April 28, 2019
DCeased #1 hits stores on Wednesday. We don’t recommend getting it via mail order for obvious reasons, so be sure to head to your local comic shop for a copy.
