We just mentioned that the Isola trade paperback is getting an exclusive ten-page prologue if you buy it from Barnes & Noble rather than a comic book shop. But here is something that Barnes & Noble are not allowed to have. Or Amazon. Just comic book stores.
Captain Marvel: Monica Rambeau is a trade paperback collecting stories of the first Captain Marvel to hold that title after Mar-Vell and long before Carol Danvers.
It was also the kind of move, having a black woman take the role, that now would be condemned by certain sorts as political correctness gone mad/tokenism/destroying the legacy of a character. But at the time was just business as usual.
But while Marvel is collecting these past Captain Marvel stories alongside the release of the new Captain Marvel movies, they won’t be doing so in bookstores, just comic book shops served by Diamond Comic Distributors.
Because, get this, Marvel Comics seems to believe that regular comic book readers are perfectly capable of handle the idea of multiple characters having the same superheroic identity, even if they are of different race or gender. But bookstore customers? More likely to be confused, especially with the movie featuring a white blonde haired woman.
Go figure. Here’s the solicit.
