Remember how certain people overreacted to a few below the belt jokes from a decade ago by James Gunn that wouldn’t have been out of place in Monty Python or South Park that supposedly got him fired from Guardians Of The Galaxy? I say supposedly, because it strikes me that there is something still missing from that chain of events. Gunn driving over Alan Horn‘s dog, that kind of thing.
Anyway, there was more pearl-clutching going on this weekend when Robbi Rodriguez, co-creator of Spider-Gwen and the upcoming Goddess Mode for DC/Vertigo, decided to show Ethan Van Sciver exactly what he thought of him after the Darwyn Cooke kerfuffle. By baring his ass cheeks at him and tweeting the result, stating ‘Hey, I made some f** off tweets but also fuck youncomic gaterers, and really f-ck @EthanVanSciver hope the gay frogs that gave you the best In Youre life. Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd. I misss you. ‘
It was gross. Instant #Bumgate.
Apparently, this is a hate crime, or at least this is how it’s being spun by people who want a double-Gunn moment. And are trying to get him fired from DC Comics. Even managing to get Neil Gaiman involved by talking about boycotting Sandman, also published by DC Comics.
All I know is that people came onto my timeline announcing they were boycotting all the Sandman stuff because a DC freelancer had sent something that pissed them off. They have been following that up with insults and invective. If they wanted me to be friends, they did it wrong.

You have to stop lying. It’s not a good look, and people will laugh at you.

All I can say, is these people really should never watch Monty Python, South Park or even pick up a copy of the upcoming Batman: Damned by Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo which, as I understand it, features a perfectly crafted Bat-arse. Okay maybe not a close-up.
Whether or not it is modelled on Robbi’s posterior, I couldn’t tell you.
Yes, they called it ComicsGate to imply scandal. We adopted it and it now means “people who are opposed to the bullying and gay porno harassment of mainstream comics and seek to fix this business of selling comics to normal people again.”
So far, #ComicsGate is winning. https://t.co/Sq1wVnTSUc

And who is a normal person?
Someone who doesn’t hatefully send a fellow professional a photo of their asshole. https://t.co/qNSjMhrY1O

So everyone who isn’t Robbi Rodriguez? Or does normal mean something else? As they say, opinions are like assholes. Everybody’s got one. And sometimes, it seems, people post them on Twitter…
