SelfMadeHero at the Edinburgh International Book Festival

British graphic novel publisher SelfMadeHero may not have been at San Diego Comic-Con, but they are going to the Stripped strand of this year’s E dinburgh International Book Festival, bringing creators and comic books in tow.

French historian and arabist Jean-Pierre Filiu will discuss Best of Enemies: A History of US and Middle East Relations, which he co-created with artist David B. Reinhard Kleist is the creator of Nick Cave: Mercy On Me, Johnny Cash: I See a Darkness and other graphic biographies. He brings his live drawing show to the Edinburgh Book Festival, backed by three bands from Adelaide: Zephyr Quartet, Ukulele Death Squad, and Carla Lippis and the Furies. To mark the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx’ birth, Guardian cartoonist Martin Rowson adapted The Communist Manifesto into graphic novel form. He shares the stage with the cartoonist Mohammad Sabanaah, a former political prisoner in Israel, and the comedian Phill Jupitus. Sat 18 Aug, 19:30-20:30, Garden Theatre

Belgian artist Javi Rey, who adapted Jesús Carrasco’s acclaimed novel Out In the Open into graphic form will also attend while John Harris Dunning and Michael Kennedy, who collaborated on the stylish psychological thriller Tumult, will discuss their graphic novels on Sun 12 Aug, 20:30-21:30, Baillie Gifford Corner Theatre
