Arsenal Comics & Games of Newbury Park, California, posted some rather unfortunate news last week. They may have been in shutdown but that didn't stop some people trying to get into the shop. The store was broken into and a lot was stolen.
They posted to Facebook, saying "Well, just when things couldn't get any worse. We have had a break in at our Newbury location. Yes. The rascals made off with a large dollar amount of goods. But the worst part of this is, we have a gaping hole in our shop from the shattered door and Batman just stood there and watched! We will have more details soon, in the meantime we are here doing curbside! (Because we cant leave until the door is fixed) So call us with an order and we will throw it through the window of your moving car!!! #batmandidnothing #localcomicshop ……oh, and we prefer card transactions because they stole our cash drawer #arsenalcomicsandgames"
They put up a GoFundMe to rebuild and repair the store – and got more than they bargained for. It's currently around $6,500 on a $2,000 goal. Timmy Heague of the store posted "considering the costs of stolen goods and damages was 5K, I am completely blown away we are so close to that number. I cannot express enough how thankful I am for everyone who has helped contribute, given words and actions of love and support, and been a friend of Arsenal and myself since this little dream of a shop came to be. I am in complete awe of how something like Arsenal can mean so much to so many people and have so much value in peoples hearts. Knowing that the shops mean this much to people truly blows my mind in the best way possible. HUGE thanks to all my friends, customers, fellow comic retailers, comic creators, and anyone who has contributed. Myself as well as the Arsenal team are eternally grateful. Seriously, thank you so much".
The store has received donations from the likes of comic book creators and retailers Mike Kunkel, Matthew Rosenberg, Steve Rotterdam, Ryan Higgins, Philip Hester, John Hendrick and more.
