Archie Comics Cancels Their Marvel Digest Volumes

Marvel Comics has been licensing classic comic books to Archie Comics to package in their digest formats and sell in supermarkets, big brand stores and newsstands, where Archie Comics maintains a distribution edge.

However, it seems that line has been curtailed, as I understand it, by Archie Comics. The final edition was Marvel Comics Digest: Spider-Man & Venom back in August. The two subsequently solicited titles will not be published.

Marvel do continue to license their properties out elsewhere for publication, including Titan Books and IDW Entertainment. Could it be that too much licensing has generated fears of cannibalising the market?
